It is with great sadness that we learnt of the death of Prof. Anatoly Pokrovsky on June 2nd, 2022. A world-class surgeon, widely regarded as the founder of vascular surgery in Russia, we are proud to also count Prof. Pokrovsky amongst the former ESVS Presidents and we have warm memories of him leading the Society during the 2000 Annual Meeting in London.
Prof. Pokrovsky can be credited with paving the way for angiologists and vascular surgeons in Russia, due to his dedication to the field, his excellent research, and his desire to teach and train those who would follow him. He is also remembered as a pioneer in the development of thoracic and thoracoabdominal aorta surgery.
We extend our deepest sympathies to Prof. Pokrovsky’s family and loved ones, and also to the wider community, who have lost a great surgeon and an inspirational soul. We thank him for his unfaltering commitment to his work and his patients, and we remember him fondly.
