Objective: Pain management is one of the most difficult aspects on the care of the patient affected by PAD. A good assessment and treatment of pain is one of the most effective parts of the treatement both in preparation and for the postoperative care. It affects all patients with PAD at different level of severity so it is to be considered endemic. Focusing on its causes and medications and treatment available will improve the patient experience and their compliance to other aspect of their care.
After participating in this workshop, the attendees should be better able to:
- Understand the current treatment landscape for different types of pain affecting the patient with PAD and the unmet need
- Identify new and multidisciplinary treatment approaches for pain management
Programme:
17:00 to 17:15 Miss Francesca Fratesi – Introduction of panelists and discussion of learning points
17:15 to 17:45 pm Dr MC Sorella – Definition of pain and pain pathway. The assessment of pain in PAD and the preoperative/day to day management: the Anaesthetist and Pain Specialist approach.
17:45 to 18:15 Dr. Steve Young – Diabetic neuropathy and Ischemic Pain management: is it possible to create an algorithm?
18:15 to 18:45 Mr Dave Bosanquet – Management of the postoperative pain following amputation: the use of nerve catheter as adjuvants to medical pain management
18:45 to 19:00 – Q&A and closing remarks
Target audience: The course is designed for all level of knowledge of neuro-ischaemic pain management. The participants should also be familiar with pathophysiology of pain. The course is open to vascular surgeons, vascular surgeons in training, and vascular nurses from all around the world. The course is also open to all specialities dealing with pain management in patients with peripheral arterial disease such as Primary Care Physicians, Anaesthetists and Pain Management Specialists, Podiatrist and Foot and Ankle Specialists at all level of training from all around the world.
Registration and Cancellation policy: € 25 for ESVS members and € 30 for non-members. Please note that the course is dependent on final registration numbers. Where registration numbers are too low to run the course, this will be announced on the website no later than 48 hours before the course starts. For cancellations received more than 10 days before the event, a refund will be given less an administration fee of EUR10. For cancellations received less than 5 days before the event, no refund is possible. Participants are aware that the online session will be recorded and may be used by the ESVS on our website, e-library and social media platforms.
