ESVS and Copenhagen Certification programme in EVAR – ENHANCE EVAR (Suprarenal fixation)

A collaboration:  Esvs and copeNHAgeN CErtification programme (ENHANCE ) is arranged as a collaboration between the ESVS Academy, the Department of Vascular Surgery at the University Hospital of Copenhagen (Rigshospitalet) and the Copenhagen Academy of Medical Education and Simulation (CAMES), Denmark. Today, the ENHANCE programme consists of two courses that can be taken independently of each other. ENHANCE Open focuses on open repair of infrarenal aortic aneurysms, and ENHANCE- EVAR focus on basic endovascular aortic repair (EVAR). Both courses are a part of the ESVS Aortic Fellowship Programme.

Programme description: ENHANCE EVAR is a certifying simulation-based educational programme aiming to prepare vascular surgical trainees to perform EVAR on patients with infrarenal abdominal aortic aneurysms. It consists of mandatory pre-course e-learning and 3 intensive days of hands-on training in Copenhagen. We use high-fidelity simulators and the latest evidence within course design, assessment and certification. Participants will perform case sizing and planning on 3D-sizing stations and complete several EVAR procedures as surgeons and assistants on virtual reality endovascular simulators. Everything is supervised by highly experienced EVAR surgeons guiding the participants through each step of the EVAR procedure. Trainee to trainer ratio is 2:1, ensuring intensive learning and feedback. During this course EVAR stent graft with infra-renal fixation will be used during the simulated cases.

This ENHANCE EVAR programme will have the same structure as the previous ENHANCE-EVAR courses. However, the device trained on will be different. Learning objectives: To obtain technical and non-technical skills in elective infrarenal EVAR, and make pre-trained novices ready to continue their surgical training in the operating room, under supervision.

Full Programme

Participant level: The course is designed for EVAR novices, defined as having performed fewer than 5 supervised EVAR-procedures as primary Operator and never having performed an EVAR-procedure independently

Certification: You will be continuously assessed during the course and will be certified according to the validated standards developed in Copenhagen if you pass. MedTech accreditation is being sought for this event. CME accreditation is not being sought for this event

Please note:

• Completing and passing a comprehensive ENHANCE e-learning programme is mandatory before hands-on training in Copenhagen. Accepted participants will receive a link for the modular eL program 3-4 weeks before the hands-on sessions in Copenhagen.
• We aim to improve our training through research, and data collection for such work may be part of ENHANCE. Data collection will be strictly confidential and comply with GDPR and Danish legislation.

Registrations and cancellation policy: The course fee is €2100 for ESVS members and €2550  for non-members. The fee includes certification, 1:2 supervision, course material, simulator and equipment rental, lunch and networking dinner. Transport, accommodation and additional meals are not included. The ENHANCE EVAR programme is non-sponsored and non-profit. Questions regarding course content, qualifications etc. can be addressed to: Rebecca.andrea.conradsen.skov@regionh.dk. Please contact Ciara McFerran info@esvs.org – in the first instance, to receive a screening questionnaire of your level, that needs to be completed within 3 days. Applicants will be informed of the outcome asap and will be asked to pay the fee in accordance with their membership status via the ESVS website. Participants are advised that photographs and video recordings may be taken during the course. By participating in the course and entering in the venue, you consent to the publication, release, exhibition and reproduction of such materials to be used for the ESVS website, ESVS communications and on ESVS social media. If you don’t want to appear in communications, please make the organisers aware.

Cancellation policy: Please note that the course is dependent on final registration numbers. If the course is cancelled, an announcement will be made on the website no later than one calendar month before the course starts and all registrants will be informed. Travel and accommodation must therefore not be booked until this date has passed – ESVS is not financially responsible if the event has to be cancelled due to low numbers, in this timeframe. For cancellations received by participants more than one calendar month before the event, a refund will be given less an administration fee of 10 EUR. For cancellations received after this, no refund is possible.
