Programme description: Vascular access remains one of the most demanding areas of vascular surgery. This intensive hands-on training course is designed for vascular trainees who want to move beyond basics and gain practical confidence in complex access creation and complication management. Over two highly interactive days, participants will work side by side with an experienced international faculty to tackle real-life challenges in dialysis access. The course combines focused lectures, case-based discussions, expert debates, and immersive hands-on workshops using simulators.
You will gain practical exposure to:
- Complex access techniques, including basilic vein transposition, prosthetic grafts, graft tunneling, and hybrid access strategies
- Prevention and management of common fistula complications, with practical tips you can apply immediately
- Advanced solutions for fistula-induced hand ischemia (HAIDI, DRIL, RUDI)
- Decision-making in endovascular vs open AVF creation, guided by expert debate
- Salvage strategies for stenosis, thrombosis, and failing access
- “Last-chance” access options, including central vein occlusion and hybrid approaches
Through faculty-guided workshops, and real-world case scenarios, you’ll be challenged to think critically, refine your technical skills, and develop a structured approach to complex vascular access. Join us and take your vascular access expertise to the next level.
Learning objectives:
- Apply evidence-based decision-making to select the most appropriate open, endovascular, or hybrid vascular access strategy for individual patients
- Demonstrate improved technical skills in creating and managing complex vascular access using hands-on simulation
- Recognize, prevent, and manage common and advanced vascular access complications, including ischemia and access failure
Participant level: Basic/Intermediate. Vascular surgeons in training and consultants with no previous experience in vascular access.
