The ESVS Annual Meeting is the highlight of our year – positioning the Society as a leading scientific and training organisation within the vascular community, and offering a dynamic, modern and interactive platform for the ESVS family to gather, connect, exchange ideas and shape the future of vascular surgery together. The Programme Committee is the group shaping the scientific heartbeat of the Meeting and the Chair is the one leading that effort.
In recent years, the Committee has modernised and transformed the Meeting, significantly improving scientific quality, accessibility, interactivity, and ensuring a more welcoming, inclusive and vibrant atmosphere for all delegates.
The next Chair will play a key role in ensuring continuity of these efforts, and in continuing to evolve the Meeting in fresh and ambitious ways.
We are therefore opening a call for candidates for the position of Chair of the Programme Committee.
Who we’re looking for?
Someone who wants to:
- Lead the most important scientific event in European vascular surgery, in alignment with the ESVS strategy
- Dedicate time and efforts in making the ESVS Annual Meeting an attractive, interactive and vibrant scientific and educational event
- Bring vision and structure
- Collaborate with experts across Europe
- Support the Executive Committee in decisions linked to scientific strategy
What is expected of the Programme Committee Chair?
- Be able to spend about 1-2 hours per week for the task, besides participating and leading regular teleconferences and one face to face meeting :
- Site visit of future Annual Meeting destination – October/November
- ESVS Committee Chair meeting, twice a year (hybrid)
- ESVS Council report on the Annual Meeting (online) – April / May
- Attend the ESVS Annual Meeting – September / October
- Programme Committee chair can be invited to join Executive Committee meetings to address ESVS Annual Meeting Scientific Programme related topics.
- Define and manage timelines, milestones and deadlines of the Scientific Programme (with the assistance of ESVS Programme Manager)
- Supervise the development of the Scientific Programme
- Supervise the onsite programme during the Annual Meeting, including real-time decisions on programme flow, last-minute changes, unforeseen issues, speaker adjustments, and ensuring sessions run smoothly (with the support of the ESVS Programme manager)
- Support the Executive Committee with budget related decisions linked to the scientific programme
- Ensure the scientific programme aligns with the ESVS strategy
- Work on a voluntary basis

- The applying candidates should provide an evidence of previous relevant experience in organisation of international scientific events
- Any previous involvement in the Annual Meeting whether as a chair, speaker, or in another role is appreciated though not essential.

Deadline to submit your application: 04.01.2026
Review of applications and pre-selection of potential candidates: 02.01.2026-09.01.2026
Interviews & voting : 14.01.2026
Once the final selection has been made, the result will be communicated to all candidates by 16.01.2026
Ratification of selected candidate by ExCo : by 28.01.2026
The selected candidate will begin their 3-year term at the conclusion of this year’s Annual Meeting. Prior to that, they will be asked to join Programme Committee calls as a ‘shadow’ to ensure a smooth handover.
