Testimonials from 2024 Prize Winners
We submitted our abstract to the ESVS Annual Meeting 2024 to share our new insights into the increased risk of developing anastomotic leakage after colorectal surgery in patients with mesenteric stenosis. We also wanted to share our ideas on an RCT that we are currently developing to investigate the efficacy and safety of mesenteric artery stenting to prevent anastomotic leakage in patients with SMA stenosis that have to undergo colorectal surgery. Many international collegues showed their interest in our study, offered collaboration opportunities and gave usefull recommendations to improve the study protocol. The ESVS offered their full support for the design and implementation of the study, and for fund raising. Also, industrial partners showed their interest in the proposed RCT and further collaboration. We would definitely submit our abstract again.
For me personally, it was an honour to win the prize and felt like a recognition of our work. It gives an extra boost to continue my research with the goal to improve clinical outcomes of patients with diseases of the mesenteric arteries.
The AAA Core Outcome Set project had a real European focus so it was fitting that it was presented at the prestigeous ESVS annual meeting. We knew that ESVS would provide the opportunity to gain thought-provoking feedback from leading international experts, subsequently helping us to guide the implementation of the core set going forwards. Winning a prize at ESVS meant a great deal given the impressive research that was showcased in the abstract sessions. I would like to thank everyone who contributed to the project as without them it would not have been possible
I was fellow for one year in the vascular unit at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm where I had the opportunity to start projects with M. Jonsson, E. Karlöf and U. Hedin about carotid plaque analysis. Submitting an abstract to the annual ESVS meeting was a great opportunity to present our preliminary results and to challenge our study with the audience. Winning the price represents an encouraging gratitude for the work we did and I am looking forward to submitting our future projects.
There were many reasons for submitting my abstract to the meeting. I believe it is important to share our work and knowledge with colleagues, as this allows us to learn from each other and collectively advance the field of vascular surgery. On a more personal level, it was a valuable opportunity to improve my communication skills, get involved in the meeting, and interact with colleagues from other hospitals and countries, gaining insights into how they work. Winning the Prize was the cherry on the cake to an incredible week. It felt like recognition for the hard work of the team I am part of and serves as a great motivation to continue in the same direction. Participating in the annual meeting has been profoundly beneficial for my professional career. It provided opportunities to attend talks and sessions led by some of the best professionals in our field, learn about advancements firsthand, and build connections with people from other countries and hospitals, opening doors to potential collaborations and future opportunities. Additionally, I attended workshops that helped me improve both technical and academic skills through direct learning from experts. I will definitely submit further work in the future, as it is both a rewarding challenge and a fantastic opportunity for professional growth.
I have Submitted my abstract as a consequence of our interesting study results, we wanted to share with other specialists in the field. I was really willing to create a unique e-poster and present it in front of the jury. Not only is it a great way to present the results of our professional work, but also a method of improving our creativity.
I consider submitting my abstract ones again in the future, because thanks to this event I feel a huge motivation and I remember the brilliant atmosphere during the conference.
I really appreciate the fact I won the prize and I have to admit I feel more confidence to begin my PhD.
