SUMMARY:EVF HOW - Hands-on Workshop on Venous Disease
DESCRIPTION:Interest in venous disease has increased throughout Europe since 2005. Although there were several symposia\, congresses\, that were organized on vascular medicine\, most courses were structured with the familiar format of presentations\, discussions and occasionally demonstrations on technique rather than actual hands-on training. Most courses devoted little time to venous disease until Peter Neglén\, Bo Eklöf and Andrew Nicolaides (European Venous Forum Faculty) conceived and introduced its first EVF Hands on Workshop (HOW) Course which was held in Larnaca\, Cyprus in 2009. Ever since the EVF HOW course is being held yearly at the end of October. A new team of Directors has taken over the lead of this course: Marianne De Maeseneer\, Tomasz Urbanek and Steve Black\, in close collaboration with Andrew Nicolaides. \nThe format combines “state-of-the art” presentations providing up-to-date information of modern practical management of venous disease\, illustrated by case management discussions\, live demonstrations\, and most importantly\, hands-on instruction with training on modern procedures. \nFind more information here.

Please go ahead and book your flights and accommodation.\n  \nTwelve vascular surgeons who will have to deal with the management of a ruptured aortic aneurysm (RAAA) are the target audience for the novel and exclusive MARB course. It is a 2-day course that seeks to cover all the details regarding a ruptured aneurysm. \nThe course aims to offer students the skills they need to manage the RAAA comprehensively and empower them. We also intend to provide students with the tools to create a programme to improve RAAA management in their centre. We will give them the resources needed to manage a RAAA effectively\, to export and apply the information and behaviours they learned in their home country. \nIt is a twenty-hour face-to-face course distributed over two days of intense work. The student collaborates with peers in small groups while being supervised by tutors who are subject matter experts. Due to the focused attention\, the student can clarify questions in an ongoing\, casual conversation. It involves academic components and a practical application of learning by putting the student in the position of the instructor. \nDuring the mornings\, we will review several theoretical aspects: \n\n\n\nHaemodynamic RAAA Approach: We will discuss the main periods in patient management and how to behave in each circumstance with the assistance of an anaesthesiologist.\nRadiological Interpretation: We will review the results of multiple CT scans and share the critical tools that will allow the learner to read a CT angio accurately.\nVascular RAAA Management: Being assessed by experienced Vascular Surgeons and working on a simulator\, we will see how to perform an efficient aortic clamping on a critical patient\nAbdominal Compartment Syndrome: We will concentrate on abdominal compartment syndrome\, working with a general surgeon to understand how to identify and treat it.\nNon-Technical Abilities: We will introduce you to the non-technical skills that are useful in emergencies and are required for the team to perform well\n\nDuring the afternoons\, we will move to two different scenarios: \n\nIn the dissection room\, we will begin with an anatomical overview of the aorta. The student will receive a review of the essential anatomy to perform atypical aortic approaches that may allow above the renal arteries or thoracic aortic clamp. It will be followed by a practical exercise with cadaver models to put the lessons learned into practice.\nWe will implement rAAA management in the hybrid operating room and hold a debriefing to review the team’s development during the exercise.\n\n\n\n \nCome to the dissection room at the University of Barcelona School of Medicine and try alternative aortic approaches to save your patients. \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n \nYou can also come to see our hybrid operating room and practice your skills during a simulation. \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \nLearning Objectives \n\nDevelop a thorough understanding of RAAA management techniques.\nEmpower yourself with the skills required to handle RAAA cases effectively.\nGain insights into creating and implementing a program to enhance RAAA management at your centre.\n\nProgramme Description \nDuration: 20 hours over two intense days.\nFormat: Face-to-face sessions with small group collaboration and expert supervision. \nWhy MARB? \n\nExpert Guidance: Benefit from the mentorship of experienced vascular surgeons and subject matter experts.\nPractical Application: Move beyond theory with hands-on exercises in realistic scenarios.\nCollaborative Learning: Engage with peers in small groups for personalised attention and ongoing discussions.\n\n  \nSecure your spot now to elevate your expertise in RAAA management.\nLimited seats are available.\nDon’t miss your chance to be part of this transformative experience.\nWe look forward to welcoming you to the MARB course! \n  \nParticipant level: The target group is vascular surgeons with limited experience in RAAA management. Based on prior experience\, participants will work in teams of three. \n  \nRegistration & Cancellation Policy: The registration fee is €950 for ESVS members and €1200 for non-members. It includes course materials\, coffees\, lunches and a networking dinner on the first night. Transport\, accommodation and additional meals are not included. SUMMARY:ESVS "PAUSE" - Percutaneous Access and Ultrasound Skills Experience workshop\, 2026 - 1st edition
DESCRIPTION:Join the team in Madrid for this exciting new workshop in the Diagnostic Pathway!\nIn collaboration with: Department of Vascular Surgery of Fundación Jiménez Díaz\, Madrid\, Spain\n  \nYou will be expertly taught by:\nEvent leads:\nAna Begoña Arribas Díaz\, MD. Vascular surgeon. Hospital Fundación Jiménez Díaz\, Madrid.\nXavier Martí Mestre\, PhD. Vascular surgeon. Hospital Universitari de Bellvitge\, Barcelona.\nConvenors:\nAlejandro González García\, MD. Vascular Surgeon. Hospital Fundación Jiménez Díaz\, Madrid.\nBegoña Gonzalo Villanueva\, MD. Vascular surgeon. Hospital Universitari de Bellvitge\, Barcelona.\nCarlos Martínez Rico\, PhD. Vascular surgeon. Hospital Universitari de Bellvitge\, Barcelona.\nAitziber Salazar Agorria. MD. Vascular surgeon. Hospital Universitario de Cruces\, Bilbao. \n  \nEndovascular procedures play a central role in the treatment of lower limb ischaemia. The first and most critical step in these procedures is obtaining reliable vascular access. Retrograde access techniques are particularly important in complex endovascular interventions and may be required in up to 25% of cases. Ultrasound-guided vascular puncture significantly facilitates both antegrade and\, especially\, retrograde access. The acquisition of these technical skills requires dedicated practical training\, and cadaveric models provide an excellent educational environment for this purpose. The aim of this course is to introduce participants to ultrasound-guided vascular access techniques. Basic anatomical and ultrasound concepts will be reviewed\, and participants will progressively develop practical skills using homemade simulation models and\, most importantly\, Thiel-embalmed cadaveric models. Special attention will be given to the use and ultrasound assessment of vascular closure devices\, as well as to selected endovascular technologies operating within the vessel lumen\, such as venous radiofrequency ablation systems and intravascular lithotripsy systems. \n  \nThe course will begin with concise theoretical sessions covering: \n\nUltrasound anatomy of the lower limbs\nPrinciples of ultrasound-guided vascular access\nFundamentals of vascular puncture devices and materials\n\n  \nPractical workshops will then follow\, progressing from: \n\nBasic ultrasound machine operation (“knobology”)\nUltrasound anatomy of lower limb vessels on cadaveric models\nUltrasound-guided puncture on homemade simulation models\nUltrasound-guided antegrade and retrograde vascular access on Thiel cadaveric models\n\n  \nFinally\, participants will practise ultrasound-guided use of vascular closure devices and selected endovascular procedures under ultrasound monitoring. More than 66% of the course will consist of hands-on practical training. To ensure optimal hands-on training\, the faculty-to-participant ratio will be 1:2\, with one ultrasound machine\, one homemade puncture model\, and one cadaveric model available for every two participants. \n  \nFull Programme \n  \nParticipant level: This course is designed for healthcare professionals interested in ultrasound-guided vascular access and ultrasound monitoring during endovascular procedures.\nIt is primarily intended for vascular surgeons seeking to acquire or improve practical vascular access skills for everyday clinical practice. Participants are expected to have a basic understanding of vascular ultrasound and some previous experience in vascular puncture techniques. \n  \nCertification: MedTech Europe compliance approval is being sought for this event. SUMMARY:Via Venosa
DESCRIPTION:The first edition of Via Venosa took place on 24 – 25 April 2026 in Sofia\, Bulgaria\, bringing together more than 140 specialists with a professional interest in venous medicine\, including vascular surgeons\, angiologists and phlebologists from Bulgaria and abroad. The scientific program featured renowned international experts from France\, Italy\, Spain\, Croatia\, Sweden\, Greece and other countries\, combining scientific presentations\, practical training\, clinical cases\, live and recorded cases\, and interactive discussions. \nFor us\, one of the most valuable outcomes of the first edition was the strong interest expressed by the medical community in seeing the event continue. The feedback from participants confirmed the need for a dedicated forum that places venous pathology at the center of discussion and creates a platform for exchanging clinical experience\, exploring new therapeutic approaches and sharing international best practices.
