ASSOCIATE EDITOR of the EJVES Vascular Forum
The European Society for Vascular Surgery (ESVS) is looking for a motivated member to become the next Associate Editor (AE) of the EJVES Vascular Forum, the 2nd ESVS scientific journal in vascular surgery. The length of term will be 3 years, from January 2023, after a 3-month (October-December 2022) run-in phase.
Who can apply?
ESVS members who are knowledgeable in scientific publishing and have extensive experience in reviewing, preferably for one or both of the ESVS journals (EJVES and EJVES Vascular Forum). Experience as editor (Associate, Assistant) of an ESVS journal or of another scientific journal with a comparable level will also be valued, although it is not a mandatory requirement.
In addition, you should be an experienced researcher, to be able to evaluate the work of your peers. Preferably, you should have research experience in more than one of the major fields of vascular surgery.
Experience, skill and interest in audiovisual formats and Social Media interaction will also be much valued for the development of this role as AE of an interactive journal with great SoMe exposure.
The level of English, both oral and written, of the applicant must be high.
What is expected from you?
You will manage the editorial process of submitted papers to the journal and work together with the Editor in chief, Associate/Assistant Editors and reviewers. There were about 180 submissions during 2021, and you will be involved in 35-50% of those. You will also be expected to actively enhance the audiovisual material and engage in Social Media interaction.
Furthermore, your innovative ideas will be sought after to further develop the EJVES Vascular Forum according to the ESVS mission, ie. to further improve vascular science and practice, and to progressively lift its position among the international journals of our field.
As a consequence, this assignment is considerably time-consuming. There is a yearly honorarium for remuneration, but that will not directly cover for missed-out clinical work. Therefore, you must have both the commitment and a working environment that permits you to focus on your editorial work for 3 years.
How to apply?
Please send your CV and a letter of motivation, which should include an outline of your vision of the journal and your role in it, as well as your motivations and availability.
In addition, please provide supporting documents defining your experience in scientific editing and your level of English, as well as a letter of support from your employer (if applicable).
Your application should be sent to info@esvs.org.
Timeline:
Deadline to submit your application is the 15.07.2022.
Shortlisted applicants will be able to present themselves to the EJVES Vascular Forum Editor in chief and Associate Editors at a Zoom interview that will take place in early August 2022, and the EJVES Vascular Forum EiC will make the final selection.
Once ratified, the result will be communicated to all candidates before the end of September 2022. The actual work as AE will begin with a run-in phase, starting in October 2022, to shadow the current AE. This will give the elected person enough time to prepare for taking on full AE responsibilities from January 2023.
