EVST Secretary (Shadow)

The European Vascular Surgeons in Training (EVST) Council is looking for a candidate to shadow the current Secretary until they formally take their post at the end of the Annual Meeting 2025, for three years (non-extendable). 

The EVST represents the interests of trainees in vascular surgery within the European Society for Vascular Surgery, especially with regards to training, education, careers, research and exchange programmes.

 The EVST’s most important goal is to provide an equal level of knowledge and skills for trainees in vascular surgery all over Europe. The EVST works within the ESVS society on all issues related to vascular surgeons in training. Surveys on training, continuing medical education, newsletters, funding for vascular meetings and organizing of young vascular surgeons’ sessions within major vascular congresses are among the major targets of EVST.

The Secretary leads the EVST ExCo and Council¸ and has a seat on the ESVS Executive Committee and Council. The Secretary works within the ESVS society on all issues related to vascular surgeons in training. 

This role is a great opportunity to be a voice for future Vascular Surgeons, to gain insight into the workings of the Society and to network and learn from experienced individuals in the field – all while having fun! They are responsible for the following: 

  • Overseeing all EVST activities
  • Submitting an annual budget request for EVST activities
  • Chairing EVST Council meetings (twice a year – Spring and September) and EVST ExCo meetings (adhoc)
  • Sitting on the ESVS Executive Committee and ESVS Council and attending their meetings throughout the year (3 Executive Committee and 2 ESVS Council meetings).
  • Reporting on EVST activities and their progress on a regular basis
  • Actively promoting the EVST community and its activities, with the objective to increasing visibility and membership
  • Leading the EVST Councillors and ExCo to achieve these common objectives.

What do you need? 

  • Trainee membership at time of application and formal take-up of the role in September 2025
  • Work on a voluntary basis
  • Fluency in English
  • Commit to performing the tasks required by the Committee within given deadlines
  • Respect the ESVS vision, mission and procedures
  • Availability to travel within Europe for Committee meetings (ESVS ExCo meetings; 2 EVST Council meetings) and the ESVS Annual Meeting annually
  • Previous involvement in EVST activities is an advantage.

 How to do you get involved ?

 Any European EVST member can apply. Complete the ESVS application form and attach your CV. 

  • Deadline for applications is February 28th.
  • Interviews and voting in the EVST Council meeting at LIVE 2025, in May.
  • Outcome to be communicated within one week.
  • Start date shadowing: As soon as possible after interview.
  • Start date official: September 2025, after the Annual Meeting
