ESVS Academy – Aortic Pathway Lead
Job description- Academy Committee
ESVS Academy: Developing world-class, innovative and interactive training for vascular surgeons.
The ESVS Academy represents the educational branch of the Society and was born in 2018. It delivers CME accredited online and onsite educational workshops and courses to vascular surgeons across all skill levels. All of their workshop activities are split into Pathways (aortic, carotid, peripheral arterial disease, venous, dialysis, diagnostic, professional development & academic). The Academy Committee has eleven full members including the Chair, seven Pathway Leads, a Fellowship Programme Lead, a representative of the European Vascular Surgeons in Training (EVST) and the ESVS Library, and a Training Team Co-ordinator. The Committee is also supported by a full-time Project Manager, based at the head office in Bordeaux. The Academy runs up to 70 workshops per year and is constantly growing and expanding its activities.
We are looking for motivated and ambitious members of the ESVS to join the Academy Committee as Aortic Pathway Lead.
What is expected from you?
Pathway Leads are responsible for the organisation of face-to-face and online workshops in their field. You will be the head of the aortic pathway, that groups together the Academy activities in this field. The aortic pathway currently offers the greatest number of workshops, combining Fellowship workshops and workshops for the general, aortic pathway.
You will be responsible for developing, organising and coordinating workshops or courses for both the year-long and Annual Meeting programmes (with support from the Project Manager), including content and selecting the faculty. We are looking for someone with experience in this field and the drive and enthusiasm to produce a dynamic and engaging programme, developing new learning modalities and improve already established high quality content. Your expertise is also crucial, at the regular, mostly online, Academy meetings.
From April 2025, you will shadow the existing Pathway Lead, Zoran Rancic, until their term ends just after the ESVS Annual Meeting in Istanbul, 2025.
What can you expect?
- Network with enthusiastic colleagues, industry and other experts in this field.
- Improve visibility among the 3000 or so ESVS members and other colleagues considering ESVS as a leading vascular society.
- Gain and develop experience in organizing educational events, creating CME applications and budgets and working to deadlines.
The first 6 months, until the conclusion of the ESVS Annual Meeting, you will be shadowing and supporting the current Pathway Lead (collaborating and smoothly taking over the work). The Academy team, from all over Europe, meet regularly online (monthly usually) to discuss all the activities under the Academy umbrella, with 2 face-to-face meetings, normally in November and May. ESVS does not cover any expenses incurred by the Shadowee during a shadowing year.
A committee member’s term lasts for 3 years (not including the shadow period) and can be extended once, for three more years. More about the Society’s governance and bye-laws can be found here.
What do you need?
Any European member from the ESVS who meets the following criteria, can apply:
- Expertise or knowledge of aortic topics
- Work on a voluntary basis
- Fluency in English
- Commit to performing the tasks required by the Committee within given deadlines
- Respect the ESVS vision, mission and procedures
- Availability to travel within Europe for Committee meetings (2 face-to-face Academy Committee meetings, outside the Annual Meeting) and the ESVS Annual Meeting annually, in its full length
- Experience in organization of workshops and/or courses
- Previous involvement in ESVS Academy activities or any comparable educational activities is an advantage – not compulsory.
